Banu: Her Voice, Her Freedom

The Afghanistan National Institute of Music in Portugal proudly presents the song “Banu: Her Voice, Her Freedom.” This work is a musical outcry against the Taliban’s gender apartheid and a call for the restoration of the fundamental rights of women in Afghanistan.

The song is a collaboration between the Afghan Youth Orchestra and the acclaimed Afghan artist Farangis Mirzad. The lyrics are written by Negin Badakhsh and Sanam Anbarin, while the composition is by Farangis Mirzad. The piece is presented with a musical arrangement by Tiago Moreira da Silva, conductor of the Afghan Youth Orchestra.

“Banu” stands as a symbol of the resilience, hope, and perseverance of Afghan women and girls. It reflects the shared voice of music, art, and the pursuit of justice in calling for an end to the Taliban’s systematic discrimination and repression of women in Afghanistan.
