Tour in Switzerland and Germany
Recently, the Afghan Youth Orchestra concluded a 15-day tour in Switzerland and Germany. The seven concerts and educational programs in Switzerland were titled, “Music from A Silent Land,” and culminated in a landmark performance at the opening ceremony of the UN Human Rights Council, Victoria Hall, Geneva.
The “Sound of Freedom” concerts in Bonn, centered at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitat, were performed in accordance with the motto, "tantôt libre tantôt recherchée" ("partly free, partly bound"), which Beethoven used to preface his Grosse Fuge (op. 133).
In October, the re-constituted all-women’s orchestra of Afghanistan, Zohra, gave mesmerizing performances in three picturesque cities of the Basque region: Baigorri, Bayonne, and San Sebastian. The reemergence of the Zohra Orchestra symbolizes breaking the silence and representing the strength and resilience of all Afghan women. These talented girls embody the unwavering spirit of women in their homeland.
